FAQs

How would I know If my home needs an energy assessment?

If:

- Your home feels drafty

- Your home struggles to stay comfortable

- Anyone in your family has respiratory issues

- You suspect mold or other air quality issues

- and/or you have high utility bills

We suggest an energy assessment to diagnose issues.

From that place of clarity, we then can create a tailored plan to implements solutions, and/or energy production and storage systems to create an energy independent sanctuary for you and your family.

What is building performance?

Just like the human body, your home sanctuary is a group of systems, all working together to keep you comfortable and safe from the elements.

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), insulation, air sealing, lighting, and appliances contribute to the bulk of a homes utility bill, comfort, safety, and air quality. They are the foundations of building performance.

New home builds typically are pieced together by trade, with little communication between plumbers, HVAC, electricians, and general construction. It is this lack of communication that contributes to poor air sealing and other issues that require most homes to be retrofitted with additional efficiency measures.

What issues are most common? aren't there parts I may want to do myself?

The most common problems we see in homes are:

  1. Leaky buildings

  2. Leaky or incorrectly run ductwork

  3. Old, wasteful water heaters

  4. Dirty, deteriorated insulation

  5. Old Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)

  6. Appliances like garage refrigerators or freezers

Some upgrades will be DIY, but we exist to help you prioritize these upgrades in conjunction with other contractors like HVAC technicians and/or solar installers while capturing all state, federal, and utility incentives owed to you.

What is Energy Sanctuaries, and how can you help me?

Energy Sanctuaries is a Home Energy General Contracting Company.

Like the human body, homes are groups of systems with known and unknown problems. Just as a primary care physician would ask questions to determine tests to run based on the patient's pain, so too does Energy Sanctuaries start by assessing your home. We ask detailed questions about the home and review water, gas, and electricity billing data to provide additional context.

Depending on the home comfort, health, energy cost, and/or safety issues found, there are number of tests we may prescribe to pinpoint the severity of a particular issue, then ultimately prescribe a tailored creation path for your energy sanctuary.

We are solar, battery, and backup generator experts with professional certifications in building science, HVAC, and resource efficiency. Unlike most companies that specialize in one narrow scope or product, Energy Sanctuaries sees the bigger home energy picture, creating holistic results rather than selling one specific product or service.

Where does Energy Sanctuaries operate?

We operate in all 50 states, but our primary markets are California, Texas, and Florida, Colorado, and the Northeast. These are some of the sunniest states with the best incentives for home energy efficiency upgrades paired with solar + storage solutions.

Im thinking about installing solar panels. when is the right time?

Solar can be installed at any time, but always in conjunction with a whole home energy philosophy. If there are D and F - rated efficiencies in the home, those should always be addressed in the solar and storage conversation.

Do you offer services for off-grid homes?

Yes!

There are important distinctions between grid-tied and off-grid systems, and typically you will want redundancy like generators and/or fuel cells, but can definitely be done and are always interesting projects.

Our sister company, Avalon Acres Regenerative Living Center, is a 108 acre off-grid real-estate development devoted to teaching the average American how to own their vital resources like food, water, shelter, and energy.
